I would have to say Charm and Meanstalks, nothing is as fun as watching as your opponent gets flung thru the air yelling: OH CRAP! thing.gif or watching a titan start attacking your opponent in the middle of combat.

Ooh... very tough call, but I'm going to have to say Cloudkill and Tornado. I still like a lot of the others, though. Intestinal Vaporization, Bovine Intervention, and Charm are all great for stealing souls away from your oppenent. Blind Rage is the spell of choice for taking care of altar guardians. Bore is awesome not only as a way to trap an opponent (by destroying land bridges) and remove souls from play (by catching their creatures in it and sending them down the hole and off the map), but also as a show of power. Ever tried climbing to the top of one of the mountains on Trenches and using Bore to completely collapse and destroy it? Yeah. That's fun.

So why pick Cloudkill and Tornado? A couple of reasons. First of all, Cloudkill is probably the single most destructive attack spell in the game. It destroys buildings and armies alike, and if you cast it on a creature or, better yet, an enemy wizard, the stormcloud will slowly track them and follow them around for the duration of the spell, bringing thundering doom along with it. The lightning bolts that it nails your enemies with also drain some mana in addition to the heavy damage they deal, so it can help keep enemy wizards out of commision while it's active. But not only is Cloudkill wildly destructive, it's also the cheapest Wrath of the Gods spell mana-wise (with a casting cost of 1600, instead of 1800 like every other level 8 spell), and on top of that, it also recharges stupidly fast for the amount of smiting of which it is capable.

Tornado, in contrast, isn't an especially damaging spell on its own (it can't even do damage to buildings, and doesn't damage the wizards and creatures that it sucks up in any way other than the fall damage they take after it finally fades away and drops them out of the sky), but it's great for setting up desecrations or otherwise stalling the opponent. Casting Tornado will suck up the enemy wizard, but it won't immediately kill them, so you can start desecrating their altar while they're trapped helpless in the vortex and then take pot shots at them from the ground using ranged attack spells. Tornado finally fades, they hit the ground and die. Bam. Altar desecrated.

In fact, Tornado and Cloudkill combo together extremely well - cast Cloudkill on an enemy wizard, then catch them with Tornado, and the stormcloud will slowly circle the Tornado, blasting the crap out of anything unfortunate enough to be trapped in it with its lightning strikes.

I have not really seen what blind rage does, as I was kinda busy killing enemy creatures, but I do like the volcano. I've only used it once, and my enemies in the campaign mode have always caused me great distress when they used it against me. And when I used it, I was about to win anyways, but I wanted to use it so badly. It killed some of my creatures, but it was very cool. superhappy.gif

I agree with lemming, this was a tough call.. I was hung up between persephone's and james' spells, especialy since I always find new creative uses for Bore and Bovine Intervention is so rediculous. In the end though, I had to go with Charm and Meanstalks.

Meanstalks is definitely not my favorite spell, most of the time it ends up killing me.. but Charm is the best level 8 spell I've found. Generally, by the time I'm level 8, most people are level 9 with at least one titan. For me, this makes Charm absolutely neccessary until I reach level 9 and spit out an army of my own, otherwise I'll be fodder for some hell-whatever or a dragon barbeque before I can put up a fight.

I have to say the Charnal set is best for me. The people i've played are high on alter guardians, to the point where the alter is just a mass of ranged creatures. For that, and any kind of stationary defense, Death is the best, especially just before a desicration. Intestinal vaporization is also fun. Although not as good as Bovine intervention (because the wizard knows who's about to go boom) it is still a very nice spell to have, and alter guardians are very voulnerable to the intestinal vaporization and soul mole combo.

For team matches however, the Charnal/James set is amazing for soul denial. Two blue creatures, death, and then Bore the reds out from under the Wizard. Rarely will they get every soul back in time.

For team matches I would go with Stratos and Pyro, purely for using Volcano and tornado, in the same place, whilst the opposing forces already have the tornado to deal with, bad already, they are also swinging thru a valcano, add cloudkill and it is the END. also, it lookes cool. superhappy.gif

For a team game, i'd go with Charnel/Charnel. death enemy alter, death enemy army, one guy goes for wizard, one desecrates alter. with any luck, you can ninja the kill before the enemies ally can get there.
